BinMate — Terms of Service
Last updated: June 1, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the BinMate website at binmate.ca, our mobile and web applications, and the bin-rolling services we provide (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by BinMate ("BinMate," "we," "us," or "our").
By creating an account, starting a free trial, booking a service, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What BinMate Does
BinMate is a platform that connects homeowners and residents ("Customers," "you") with independent local workers ("BinMates") who move your garbage, recycling, organics, glass, and flexible-plastics bins to and from the curb on your municipal collection days. BinMates take your bins out before collection and return them after collection, based on your selected schedule and the bins associated with your property.
BinMate facilitates this connection, handles scheduling and payment, and supports the Service. The physical bin-rolling work is performed by independent BinMates, not by employees of BinMate (see Section 11).
2. Service Area
At launch, the Service is available only within Chilliwack, British Columbia. Both subscription and on-demand services are limited to this area. We may expand to additional communities (such as Abbotsford) over time; availability in any area is not guaranteed and may change.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
To use the Service, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Reside at, or be authorized to arrange service for, a property within our service area; and
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information when you register and keep it up to date.
You may create an account using an email address and password or by signing in with Google. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.
4. Subscription Service
Our subscription plan covers all of your eligible bins for a flat weekly price, beginning at $12 per week before any distance surcharge (see Section 6) and applicable taxes (see Section 7).
- Recurring service. Service repeats each week on your municipal collection schedule and renews automatically every week until you cancel.
- Free trial. New Customers receive a 14-day free trial. You will not be charged during the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are charged $0. If you do not cancel, your first weekly charge occurs at the end of the trial (see Section 9). Only one free trial is permitted per household address.
- Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from your dashboard. There are no cancellation fees (see Section 10).
- Pause. You may pause your subscription (for example, for vacations). You are not charged for weeks during an active pause. Service resumes when you end the pause.
5. On-Demand Service
You may book a one-time service without a subscription, beginning at $16 per service before any distance surcharge and applicable taxes.
- Payment is due in full at the time of booking.
- On-demand bookings are one-time only and create no commitment or recurring charges.
- On-demand service is performed to the same standards as subscription service.
- Refunds for on-demand bookings are governed by Section 10.
6. Distance-Based Pricing
Pricing reflects the distance your bins must be moved between their storage location and the curb. This distance is selected during onboarding and applies to both subscription and on-demand service. Current surcharges are added to the base price:
| Bin-storage-to-curb distance | Surcharge |
|---|---|
| Under 100 ft | No surcharge |
| 101–200 ft | +$2 |
| 201–300 ft | +$4 |
| 301 ft and over | +$6 |
We may change pricing on a going-forward basis with notice as described in Section 14.
7. Taxes
All prices shown are exclusive of applicable taxes. Applicable GST and PST will be added to your charges, including recurring subscription invoices and on-demand bookings, as required by law.
8. Billing and Payment Authorization
- Payment processor. Payments are processed by Stripe. BinMate does not store your full payment card number; Stripe handles card data under its own terms and security standards.
- Authorization. By providing a payment method and starting a subscription, you authorize BinMate (through Stripe) to charge that payment method on a recurring weekly basis for the applicable price plus taxes, until you cancel. By booking on-demand service, you authorize a one-time charge for that booking plus taxes.
- Keeping payment current. You are responsible for keeping a valid payment method on file. If a charge fails, we may retry the charge, pause or suspend service, and/or contact you to update your payment information.
9. Free Trial Details
The 14-day free trial begins when you start your subscription. We will send reminders before your trial ends. If you take no action, your subscription continues and your first weekly charge occurs on the date your trial ends, at the price plus taxes then applicable to your account. To avoid being charged, cancel before the trial ends.
10. Cancellation and Refunds
Subscriptions
- You may cancel at any time from your dashboard.
- There are no cancellation fees.
- If you cancel before your free trial ends, you are charged $0.
- Cancellation stops future weekly charges. Weekly charges already incurred for service periods that have begun are generally non-refundable.
On-Demand Bookings
- Payment for on-demand service is due in full at the time of booking.
- On-demand bookings are non-refundable once the service has been performed.
- If you need to cancel before the service is performed, contact us at support@binmate.ca as early as possible. We review cancellation requests and may issue a refund at our discretion.
- If a BinMate is unable to perform a confirmed service because the bins are inaccessible (for example, a locked gate, blocked access, or missing or incorrect access information), no refund is provided.
- If BinMate fails to perform a confirmed service for reasons within our control, you are eligible for a full refund for that booking.
11. BinMates Are Independent Contractors
BinMates are independent contractors, not employees, agents, or partners of BinMate. BinMate vets BinMates, including through third-party background and identity checks, but BinMate does not control the manner in which an independent BinMate performs an individual service. Your use of the Service does not create an employment, agency, or joint-venture relationship between you and any BinMate or between you and BinMate.
12. Service Photos
To verify that service was performed, BinMates may take "before" and "after" photos of your bins and their placement. These photos are stored as part of your service record and are visible to you and to BinMate administrators. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of these photos for service verification, quality assurance, and dispute resolution. Photo handling is further described in our Privacy Policy.
13. Customer Responsibilities
To allow service to be performed safely and correctly, you agree to:
- Provide an accurate service address, bin storage location, and any access details (such as gate codes or instructions);
- Ensure your bins are accessible to the BinMate on service days and are otherwise in a condition that can be moved;
- Comply with your municipality's collection rules (for example, what may be placed in each bin and any curbside timing requirements); and
- Keep your account and access information current.
You remain responsible for confirming your own municipal collection schedule. BinMate relies on the schedule and bin information associated with your account.
14. Changes to the Service and These Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, and we may update these Terms or our pricing. For material changes that affect your subscription price or your rights, we will provide reasonable advance notice (for example, by email or in-app). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
15. Service Limitations and Disclaimer
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, BinMate disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
We are not responsible for events outside our reasonable control, including changes to municipal collection schedules, statutory holidays, weather, road or property conditions, or a municipality's failure to collect your bins. The Service supplements, and does not replace, your responsibility to comply with municipal collection requirements.
16. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BinMate and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, BinMate's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to BinMate for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) CAD $100.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
17. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms, fail to pay, misuse the Service, or create risk or legal exposure for us. You may stop using the Service at any time by cancelling your subscription and/or closing your account.
18. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that the courts located in British Columbia have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, subject to any non-waivable rights you have under applicable consumer-protection law.
